A’IBOM GOVERNOR’S WIFE AWARDS GRANTS TO INDIGENT STUDENTS OF ORUK ANAM
Not less than fifty three indigent students of Oruk Anam origin on Thursday, received Education grant from the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel.
The beneficiaries, selected from the the 16 Political wards of the area, were drawn from various tertiary institutions within and outside the state.
While 11 Project Students received minimum of forty thousand naira each, about 42 other Students smiled home with a full session tuition fees, ranging from forty-four thousand naira to ninety three thousand naira, depending on the higher institution of learning.
Presenting the cash to the beneficiaries in Uyo, the recently awarded first lady of the year who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Interministerial direct labour projects, Prince Sampson Idiong, admonished the indigent Students to put their background behind and aim higher in life.
“Never you allow your background to put your back on the ground. Coming from a humble background should never be a limitation to achieving your dreams in life. With hard work, focus and dedication to studies, outstanding success in the future is inevitable”.
The first lady who is also an indigene of Oruk Anam, seized the opportunity to advise Oruk Anam Students and those seeking admission into tertiary institutions to put in their best into academics, adding that only seriousness could break all barriers on the way to dreams actualisation. She however, charged the beneficiaries to utilize the grants for the purposes so disbursed.
Reacting to the kind gesture, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet while thanking the State Governor for the massive developmental strides in the Education sector, extolled the first lady for her constant show of love to her kinsmen and to Humanity in general. She urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture of Her Excellency by graduating with flying colours.
On his part, the Chairman, Oruk Anan Local government Council, Dr Kingsley Frank while also thanking the Governor and wife, applauded the leadership of the Students for the transparency in the selection process. He disclosed that no Political Stakeholder had a hand in the selection process.
Others who also extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Governor and wife were the Oruk Anam PDP Chairman, Engr Nsikan Peter Titus and the AKSEPWMA Chairman, Obong Prince Ikim.
Other Prominent persons who witnessed the event include, the Chairman, State Technical School Board, Hon Godwin Udom and Oruk Anam Supervisor for Education, Mrs Itoro Simon, amongst others.
