FEYReP PARTNERS VITAMIN ANGELS TO DEWORM AKWA IBOM CHILDREN
…Provides Nutritional Vitamins for Pregnant Women
The Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP), a Non-governmental platform of the Wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has partnered Vitamin Angels.org, a health-based charity organization to deworm Akwa Ibom children and as well provide free nutritional vitamins for expectant mothers in the state.
Performing the flag-off of the exercise which held at the corporate headquarters of FEYReP, the governor’s wife, Dr. Martha Emmanuel said the partnership became expedient to help promote a healthy living in the family for children and women during pregnancy.
She said available statistics indicate that more than 25 million Nigerians are currently infected by worms, adding that the figures for children are even scarier at an estimated 80 percent of the population.
For the vitamins, Dr. Emmanuel said pregnancy requires that women have enormous vitamins in their system so they could deliver in good health, saying a healthy mother would always give birth to a healthy baby.
She applauded Vitamins Angels for being at the forefront of the fight against the scourge saying her organization, FEYReP, was happy to enter into partnership with an organization of its status.
The First Lady noted that providing vital free medicines for de-worming of children and vitamins to pregnant women, show the important role the company is playing in improving healthcare in the country, and as well appreciated them for living up to their corporate social responsibility of investing and creating awareness on this critical health care challenge.
The governor’s wife called on Akwa Ibom people especially mothers to embark on regular de-worming exercise at least once every 6 months as children are more vulnerable.
While making the official handing over of the medicines to the officials of the State Ministry of Health, she assured that government on its part will continue to partner with key health sector stakeholders to provide free Medicare to its citizenry.
Earlier in her remarks, the Coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs. Ime Ephraim Inyang , described the exercise as a soothing balm to many Akwa Ibom families, noting that in view of the objectives of the FEYReP, the governor’s wife so decided to partner Vitamins Angels to provide free medical services to Akwa Ibom people in order to promote a healthy living in the state.
She appreciated the governor’s wife for always thinking about the vulnerable in the society and as well applauded Vitamins Angels for being a strong partner in touching lives.
In a brief talk on the importance of the programme, the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, said the deworming for Children and the provision of vitamins for pregnant women were very essential in their daily living and growth.
In their goodwill messages, Dr. Mary Udo of the General Hospital Ituk Mbang, and Dr. Patrick Eshiet, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, all thanked the governor’s wife for her motherly love for Akwa Ibom children and pregnant women, saying that FEYReP has in the past years added value to lives positively across the state.
They promised to ensure that the medications get to the appropriate quarters for all children and pregnant women to benefit.
Highpoint of the exercise was the symbolic deworming of the children aged between 6months to 5 years and vitamins to expectant mothers by the governor’s wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel.
