EKONG SAMPSON CONGRATULATES PASTOR UMO ENO, STATE ASSEMBLY WINNERS

…says democracy must unite, not divide, Akwa Ibom people; describes Umo Eno’s victory as emphatic and symbolic

Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom South, Dr. Ekong Sampson has congratulated Pastor Umo Bassey Eno on his victory and declaration by INEC as Governor-elect of Akwa Ibom State. Dr. Sampson has equally felicitated all the newly elected State House of Assembly members on their victorious outing in the recently announced polls. Furthermore, Barr. Sampson has stated that with the elections now come and gone, democracy must unite, rather than divide Akwa Ibom people.

Pastor Umo Eno, a business magnate and former Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in the state was yesterday evening announced winner of the rescheduled March 18, 2023 Governorship election. Pastor Eno of the PDP, polled a total of 354,348 votes to defeat YPP, Bassey Albert, who scored 136,262 votes and APC Akanimo Udofia, who scored 129,602 votes. The Governor-elect in his post victory message has promised ‘happy times’ for the state.

In a message of felicitation to Pastor Umo Eno, Dr. Ekong Sampson hailed the Governor-elect on his ’emphatic and symbolic victory’ at the polls. He stated that ‘Pastor Umo Eno’s victory is indeed, a reflection of the collective wish of Akwa Ibom people as shown in the landslide win according to the results released’. Sampson praised Umo Eno as ‘an excellent man, rich in content, character and maturity’, noting that his emergence signposts greater times ahead for Akwa Ibom State.

According to the Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin, ‘in-law’, Umo Eno, ‘a man of peace and an accomplished entrepreneur will give Akwa Ibom good security and strong economy’.
Sampson expressed readiness to ‘work fruitfully with Governor-elect Umo Eno to advance the interest of Akwa Ibom South and our dear State’

In same vein, Dr. Sampson has also congratulated the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) family in the State alongside all the House of Assembly Members-elect for a momentous outing in Saturday’s election.
He said ‘the poll results clearly demonstrate that our party, the People’s Democratic Party is well loved by Akwa Ibom people’.

Barr. Sampson particularly congratulated the House Member-elect for Mkpat Enin, his home constituency, Hon. Uwem Imo-ita on his electoral victory. Hon. Imo-ita served as Councillor under Dr. Sampson when the former was Head of Council in Mkpat Enin. From the results announced, PDP won 24 out of the 26 House of Assembly seats in Akwa Ibom.

Barr. Ekong Sampson, a former two term State Lawmaker for Mkpat Enin also used the medium to offer insights into recent political issues in the state necessitated by the just concluded elections. Akwa lbom witnessed one of its most contentious election seasons in recent times in the just concluded polls with flared political emotions.

However, according to Dr. Sampson, ‘with the elections come and gone, it was time for all hands to be on deck to move the state forward’. The former State Environment and Petroleum Resources Commissioner opined that democracy such as ours, ‘must unite, not divide, Akwa Ibom people’. He noted that, as with his avowed philosophy, firm bridges must be built across the diverse interests in the State.

The Senator-elect again, expressed appreciation to the people of Akwa Ibom South ‘who have been kind enough to elect me to represent them in the Red Chambers’. Sampson reassured that he will work to protect the interest of the senatorial district and offer rewarding representation. He noted that ‘Akwa Ibomites have chosen that they are indeed, in for happier times’.
