Ekong Sampson to deliver Keynote Address at Abuja Symposium for Former Supreme Court Justice, Chike Idigbe

Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom South, Dr Ekong Sampson will tomorrow Thursday, 4th May, 2023, deliver a keynote address at an Abuja Symposium in honour of the centennary of a former Supreme Court Justice, Chike Idigbe. The ceremony will hold at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Continental Hotel, Abuja, by 10am.

Idigbe, OFR, CON, was a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 1964 to 1967 and from 1975 till his death in 1983. He is widely remembered as a distinguished jurist, a fearless advocate for justice, and a champion of the rule of law.
Barr. Ekong Sampson is widely respected in the legal and literary circles. In 1999, he published ‘The Path of Justice Idigbe’. The legal biography enjoyed critical acclaim, and came following Sampson’s record breaking ‘Law and Statesmanship: The Legacy of Sir Udo Udoma’.

Justice Idigbe worked with Sir Udo Udoma and other eminent jurists at the Supreme Court. Their era marked one of the most remarkable chapters in Nigerian law and jurisprudence.
According to a statement from the organizers of the event, Punuka Attorneys and Solicitors, a firm which Idigbe himself founded, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon is expected to grace the occasion as well as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, alongside other Justices of the Supreme Court.
Other big wigs also expected to attend include former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister for Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola, State Governors, Justices, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau, critical stakeholders in the Judiciary, among others.
