IDEM MAKES CASE FOR WIDER TELECOMS NETWORK COVERAGE ACROSS NIGERIA

The Deputy Chairman Communications Committee in the House of Representatives, Rep. Unyime Idem has made a strong case for wider telecommunications network coverage accross Nigeria. Idem said this Monday May 8, 2023, in Abuja, during the sitting of ad-hoc committee investigating the failure/inability of the NCC to promote widespread availability and usage of mobile telecommunication network services throughout Nigeria.

The Ukanafun born Lawmaker noted that with improved network coverage, governance, education, health, financial services and transportation sectors of the economy will receive a boost thereby creating jobs and wealth. He added that communication will become easier while digital/knowledge economy will be enhanced.

Idem lamented that it is very sad that in a country blessed with enormous resources, the citizens are still suffering from access to telecommunication networks coverage.

He asked the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to submit a detailed plan on how to provide network coverage to all the unserved areas in the county.

In his response, the NCC Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, attributed the poor network coverage to lack of funds. He said the commission will need a minimum of N700bn to provide network coverage to all the unserved and underserved areas.
