Lord Lugard Question Takes Centre Stage as Watbridge Hotels, Uyo Book Club Hold Post Inauguration ‘Open House’ on Nigeria’s Future

The Lord Frederick Lugard question takes centre stage tomorrow as Watbridge Hotels in conjunction with Uyo Book Club, holds a first of its kind, ‘Open House’ to mark transition of government in Akwa lbom State and Nigeria. The event slated for 4pm, will take place at the Lugard Terrace, Watbridge Hotels, IBB Way, Uyo.

The top hospitality outfit hosts Uyo Book Club Reading every last Saturday of the month and proudly supports the mini symposium. The Open House, which coincides with the club’s May Reading has as theme, ‘Lord Frederick Lugard – Hero or Villain: A Paradigm on Nigeria’s Post Inauguration Democracy’.

Among the eminent scholars and intellectuals to lead discussion include Dr. Ekong Sampson, Senator-elect, Akwa Ibom South/Patron, Uyo Book Club, Prof. Etim Frank, an Associate Professor of Political and Administrative Theories, University of Uyo and Dr. Emmanuel Akpanobong, elder statesman and a renowned medical practitioner.

Others are Dr. Martin Akpan, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Board of Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Imaobong Akpan Akpan, a political affairs commentator and Dr. Udeme Nana, respected Media scholar and founder of the club, who will also serve as host.

The club invites political office holders, opinion leaders, public analysts and commentators, the academia, students to come and be a part of the session. Lord Lugard, who, among other things, masterminded the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of Nigeria in 1914, has remained an enigmatic figure in Nigeria’s national discourse.
