The A.R.I.S.E. Ambassadors has conveyed their appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his recent intervention work at the ravine site behind The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Etim Okon Usanga District Headquarters in Uyo. This vital intervention aims to tackle the adverse effects of environmental degradation and has been coordinated and executed by the Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources.

The group commends Governor Umo Eno for his unwavering dedication to the project, even while being away on official duties abroad. They are delighted that the state government has prioritized the concerns of the Christian community, and the citizens who played a significant role in electing the Governor into office.

During their visit to the site, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Comrade Ernest Akpan, the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Rev. Peter, and the organization’s Pillar, Dr. Iniobong Essien, emphasized the detrimental effects of human practices that contribute to environmental degradation. They warned of the potential threats to human survival if these practices are not halted.

Hon Uno Etim Uno, the Commissioner of Environment, has consistently expressed concerns regarding unregulated sand dredging and excavation practices in the state. He urges building contractors to consult with the Ministry of Environment for Environmental Impact Assessments, ensuring the protection of the environment and the state’s residents from further threats.

Chief Uno advises the residents of the state to consider sloped areas as unsuitable for habitation, cultivation, or any other active engagements. He emphasizes the necessity of preserving such areas as reserves.

The A.R.I.S.E Ambassadors team visited the intervention site to gather firsthand information about the state government’s efforts in addressing the ecological issue.
