Apostolic Church Erupts in Praise as Pastor Umo Eno Mounts the Rostrum
… We’ll Support God- Fearing Candidate in 2023 – Apostle E. Uye
It was a rare apostolic eruption of praise at the Apostolic Church, Oron Field Temple Headquarters, as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno mounted the podium to deliver his goodwill message to the congregation during its 17th convention.
Pastor Eno who in his usual manner began his message with a session of praise and worship songs, was overwhelmed by the excitement which rented the air to the glory of God.
The free-swinging white handkerchiefs of the congregation which was in sync with the soul-lifting tune, charged and raised the tempo of the worship and endeared the over ten thousand (10, 000, 000) congregants to the pastor cum politician fondly referred to as the golden boy.
In his remarks, Pastor Eno who was accompanied by his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Patience, and the deputy governorship candidate, Senator Akon Eyakenyi congratulated the Oron Field for its consistent and committed service to God for the past 17 years.
While speaking on the 2023 elections, he advised that the church should continue to pray but only support candidates with proven integrity, capacity and passion to further on the existing peace and development in the state.
He lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for the paradigm shift which according to him, has taken place in the state for the past seven years, adding that the church will continue to have its pride of place in the next administration.
Earlier in his remarks, the Field Superintendent, who doubles as the Akwa Ibom State Territorial Chairman, Apostle E. O. Uye noted that the Apostolic Church Nigeria, Oron Field is made up of members drawn from the five local government areas of Oro Nation adding that it constitutes 70 percent of the entire Christian faithful in the area.
GINGER AS RAW MATERIAL WILL ATTRACT INDUSTRIES TO AKWA IBOM STATE AS IT COMPETES FAVOURABLY WELL IN THE GLOBAL MARKET. Captain Essienton.
…seeks government collaboration.
For penultimate months, Akwa Ibom State keep getting interesting information on agricultural produce cooperating with local soil.
The tremendous stride is witnessed yet again at Ndon Ebom, Uruan Local Government Area as turns of ginger was harvested to boost agricultural sector in the state.
Briefing News Men in a media chat, the South South Chairman, National Ginger Association of Nigeria, Captain Essienton confirms Akwa Ibom Soil to be the best for ginger plantation, while commending Governor Emmanuel’s administration who has foster peace via initiatives.
According to him, with just a push to ginger farmers in the state, agriculture will be a thing of research and role model to other countries of the world.
“One thing is having passion, another is mechanism. What am seeing amongst ginger farmers, I believe they will take agric ventures to it zenith with a push. With the scarcity of ginger, we were fortunate to have best species from college of Agriculture. Hence, we have lots for sales today.”
“I therefore seek partnership with government for a robust attainment. That way, standard will be reached for industries to come in as there is high ginger demands.” Essienton opined.
Speaking further, an Agriculture Consultant in Nigeria, Engr. Emmanuel Essien applauds the seal amongst members of National Ginger Association of Nigeria, stating that he has never seen such passion amongst farmers in his years of practice.
Adding that they are not working to impress people but express genuineness in their professionalism.
He commended former Commissioner for Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Glory Edet whom upon inspection, graded 1hectare of land to support the local farmers.
According to Engr. Emmanuel, proposal submitted to the CBN has met requirements in accordance with international standard, it will be great if Akwa Ibom State Government encourage farmers with provision of certain tools to aide workload.
In their separate speeches, the Chairman and Secretary amongst other members of Ginger Association of Nigeria expressed satisfaction over administrative acumen and managerial dexterity exercised by the South South Chairman, promising their very best.
While pleading for partnership from all sphere of life to aide their work load.
High point of the chat was ginger harvest as promised by the South South Chairman last year.
Believe me if you will, the five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who are united in their anti- Ayu demand are getting battle weary.
Apart from morphing to what they brand as the Integrity Group within the party, they are in reality confused on a way out of the fox hole they have dug themselves into.
Truth is, there is no attractive option for the lead actor Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who wouldn’t love to play second fiddle in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, where the Rotimi Amaechi camp holds sway. Even in national politics, Wike wouldn’t fancy the relegated status awaiting him there.
Leave the APC out, no other party has the national spread and structure that Wike craves for his kind of politics. So neither Labour Party, nor the New Nigeria Peoples Party is a good idea despite his flirting with their presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwakwanso respectively. It is the same case for his other 4 allies.
More importantly, these Governors have anointed successors on the PDP platform they hope to install, save Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo who seeks a second term in office.
So leaving PDP is not realistic for any of the five and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar knows this is their dilemma.
Much as Atiku Abubakar knows this strife with the ranks of PDP is a threat to his Presidential bid, and much as he would have caved to pressure for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, he still holds the aces and can afford to gamble.
His announcement that he has moved on and rumours that he is negotiating with some APC Governor’s has rattled the Wike camp. They know that, in politics anything can happen.
Atiku Abubakar simply applied the 36th of the 48 Laws of Power, which states that, “When faced with an irritating, but minor offense, sometimes the best course is to ignore it. Not responding can be a demonstration of power — a message that it’s not worth your interest.”
This seeming I-no-longer- care posturing of Atiku is making the G5 paranoid, if not jittery. Read their body language and endless news conferences, you will see that the Wike led G5 are behaving like a jilted lover looking for attention or a dotting toddler crying for the nanny to notice him.
The G5 are now like National Entertainers. I don’t want to use the term Comedians. Every other day, for fear of one or two breaking away in betrayal of the group, they now wear different costumes dancing across State capitals from Enugu, to Markurdi, Port Harcourt to Lagos and the circus show continues
Other governors who are with Wike in the group are Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia.
Truth is, the G5 are desperate for this conundrum to be resolved. They have more to lose going forward if the PDP fails. The problem is, in this battle of Ego’s, who will blink first?
They know this bait is like riding the back of the tiger. It is a dicey game.

Akpabio’s Onslaught Against APC In Akwa Ibom State
By Akaniyene Udofia
The tragic deterioration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State follows its unresolved leadership crisis which may eventually cause the party to disintegrate completely sooner than later. Already, it has lost several valuable members to newly formed political parties, turning it into a butt of jokes among political analysts. Once a respected opposition party, the APC lost its bearing and momentum right from the day it admitted Senator Godswill Akpabio into its fold during the so-called uncommon defection in 2018.
From the benefit of hindsight, one can state unarguably that Akpabio was a Greek gift from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. He has so far succeeded in eating up the party from within with his sustained onslaught against the party structure and its chieftains, leaving the party to drift aimlessly without a clear plan to win even a ward during the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Funny enough, the national party leadership seems unbothered about the fate of the party in the state. Despite repeated alarm raised by party stalwarts and groups within APC, that the state party has lost its cohesiveness because of Senator Akpabio ‘s deliberate efforts to cause disunity among stalwarts, create walls of division which has weakened the party, allowing him to amass power to himself, there has been no action taken to check his excesses.
This nonchalant attitude towards reconciling and rebuilding the party which some may misconstrued as collusion by the national leadership, has emboldened the one time Senate Minority leader into wrecking more havoc in the party. Having mastered blackmail as tradecraft, Akpabio does not spare even his brothers and close allies in his ruthless game of thrones. Consequently, more than half of those who defected with him have since distanced themselves from him or left the party completely.
Once very influential and greatly sought after, Akpabio is fast becoming a pariah in the state. Here are some of the big names in Ikot Ekpene sentorial district alone, who could no longer cope with his egocentricity. They have desserted and disowned him.
Oruk Anam LGA: Chief Don Etiebet former Minister of Petroleum, Dr. Amadu Attai former state chairman of APC Akwa Ibom State, and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette former two terms member of House of Representatives. From Ukanafun LGA; Obong Inibehe Okorie an ICT expert/ businessman, and others who do not wished to identify with him anymore.
Others are in Abak LGA namely Rt Hon. Uwem Udoma former Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Innocent Idiong former chairman Abak and Lady Victoria Mel, a frontline woman leader in the state.
In Etim Ekpo LGA, former allies who feel disenchanted with Akpabio including DIG Udom Udo Ekpoudom (Rtd), Rt. Hon. Akanimo Edit former lawmaker and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon former house of representatives member. In Ika LGA, Rt. Hon Gabriel Toby former state lawmaker, Hon. Dominic Udontuk and Hon. Boniface Ebewo former council chairman Ika.
Even in Essien Udim LGA, where Akpabio boosts about his strength, he has lost all his proteges namely Chief Michael Afangideh, political leader of Essien Udim and the oldest politician in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Akpan former state/national assembly lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen former chairman/state lawmaker, Chief Godwin Afangideh former commissioner/ chief of staff of Godswill Akpabio, his brothers Barr Ibanga Akpabio former commissioner and Prince Ukpong Akpabio former commissioner, Sir Emem Akpabio, now Chairman campaign council of YPP governorship candidate. He also broke ties with Mrs. Ekaette Isong, Mr. Friday Michael Udo, among many others.
Similarly, in Ikot Ekpene LGA, he lost the support of Justice Ebienye (Rtd). He also broke off with Rt Hon Abom Tony Esuh former house of representatives member as well as Hon. Etiebiet Joshua former council chairman from Obot Akara. In Ikono and Ini, Rt. Hon. Victor Udofia former state lawmaker and Chief Otu Robert the political leader of INI local government, respectively distance themselves from Akpabio.
Considering the foregoing, it is easy to understand why Senator Akpabio will end up losing the senatorial election. He stands no chance against the PDP candidate during the election. His loss this time will be a colossal meltdown, signalling his retirement from partisan polity. Meanwhile, Akpabio knowing that his defeat is imminent, has resorted to baseless blackmail against innocent party chieftains whom he feels should support and fund his exercise in futility.
Let it be known that as long as Akpabio remains in APC, the party is doomed to fail. He squandered every ounce of goodwill towards him when he singlehandedly masterminded the ongoing leadership imbroglio in the party. As mentioned earlier, APC is no longer the main opposition party in the state and stands no chance even against a nascent parties such as New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, nor Young Progressives Party, YPP, which recently received more than ten and fifteen thousand APC members respectively into their fold.
The uncertainty of the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akan Udofia, making it into the ballot paper hovers as a dark cloud over the state party. No one is sure of victory at 2023 elections because of the in-fighting instigated and sustained by Akpabio. To add salt to injury, instead of Akpabio to pursue peace and reconciliation and rally the remaining party faithful to commence campaign ahead of 2023, he now goes about blackmailing perceived enemies, claiming his actions are approved by the party presidential candidate, Ashiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
This is not surprising though, knowing that to Akpabio, it is self first before party. If the party can nrinues to overlook this onslaught, it must also be ready to bear the brunt of Akpabio’s action after the general elections. The national leadership believes whatever he says and does at its own peril.
… Describes the Arise Agenda as an embodiment of Self-Reliant Policies
By Inyene Pius
As the politics of 2023 gathers momentum, Diplomatic Scholar and Public Affairs Analyst, Dr. Amah Williams, has described the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno as a competent candidate with concrete developmental policies and programmes that will engender development in the State if given the apparatus of governance.
Dr. Williams made this avowal on Thursday on Arise Agenda on Radio on Premium 89.9 FM: He said that the Arise Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno is a policy statement that would birth self-reliance, job creation, rural development and youth development.
He further emphasized the need to integrate youths into governance, noting that the youths are a very important demography that shouldn’t be discountenanced if any government must succeed.
In his words: “Self-reliance is an ingredient of the Arise Agenda owing to Pastor Umo Eno’s entrepreneurial antecedents. If he could create jobs as a private citizen, then as one who controls the affairs of the state, that’s an opportunity to do more”
“He has gone through the ranks, and has developed himself from a nobody to building a business empire from the root to where it is today. He has the experience, having dealt with cooperate bodies and individuals”
“Consequently, Akwa Ibom people should give Pastor Umo Eno the opportunity to implement these blueprint for the betterment of the citizenry.”
Also speaking on the Arise Agenda on Radio, a Strategic Communicator and Image Management Expert, Mr. Amanam Hilary described Pastor Umo Eno as a man who understands the times, the problems of the times, and how to address the challenges of the times.
He further justified the Arise Agenda’s focus on youth and skill development by stating that nearly all the sectors of the economy has to with young people since they are the drivers of the economy and the government.
He said: “Every government that wants to thrive must positively exploit the energies of the youths for human capital development. Pastor Umo Eno understands this and recognises value whenever he sees one”
“He did not just come up with the recently concluded Ibom Ignite Conference. That event has been ongoing for a couple of years. The emergence of the lofty programme is not as a result of his political aspiration, but an existing master plan for human capital development”
“He was the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in Akwa Ibom State during which there were indicators. He may not be a politician as some would say, but he is a technocrat who wants to bring to bear his experiences in the corporate sector into the political sphere.”
He further urged Akwaibomites to support the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno in the forthcoming governorship election, noting that it will not only breed sustainable development, but peace and shared-prosperity.

The Director General of National Taskforce on the Prohibition of Illegal Importation-Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition and Light Weapons (NATFORCE), Dr. Baba Muhammed, has distanced himself from the passage of the Bill to establish the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NATCOM).
Muhammed disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.
According to him: “I championed the need for NATFORCE to transit to a Commission, NATCOM in line with the provision that stipulates that the functions of the body shall be in line with Article 24 of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Convention on the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons to which Nigeria is signatory and which came into force in 2009.
“I distance myself from NATFORCE and all of its operations after Senate passage of the NATCOM bill which has now automatically changed the name NATFORCE to NATCOM.”

Mohammed in his presentation to the Senate committee on national security and intelligence public hearing under the then chairmanship of Dr. Ibrahim Gobir now leader of the Senate whose committee brought the transition from NATFORCE to NATCOM had appealed for the establishment of a National Commission NATCOM, rather than any other name.
However, he appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari; Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) and other critical stakeholders for providing an enabling environment for the successes being recorded so far in the collective efforts towards the establishment of NATCOM.

It is true that there are other political parties in the State, but it is not true that they have any grip in the State. They are merely making noise and gallivanting all over the place without significance.
CELEBRATING 65 YEARS OF POLITICAL LEGISLATIVE PROVIDENCE.
Any given responsibility must have fundamental unit for successful running of leadership affairs.
In leadership, it’s believed that there can’t be walk over if one personal Score Card does not reach average percentage.
Chief Barr. Peter Linus Umoh was born on August 19, 1957 in Amamong, Okobo LG where he attended primary education. His secondary Education was in Oron L.G of Akwa Ibom State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calabar, Bachelors of Law from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He’s also a qualified lawyer having been called to Bar. He’s married to Mrs. Florence Peter Linus.
Let’s recount on the history of legislature in Akwa Ibom State and contributions by Chief Barr. Peter Linus Umoh;
Created on 23rd September, 1987, Akwa Ibom State had its first Legislature on January 20, 1992 when the first civilian Governor, Obong Akpan Isemin made a proclamation to that effect. There was a rather strange political experiment sustained by the General lbrahim Badamosi Babangida administration where a military man was at the centre as “President” and the states had elected representatives – something akin to a diarchy.
Dr Okon Ekanem, pioneer deputy clerk who later became the clerk of the legislature in 1999, reports that the pioneering effort of the first set of legislators in Akwa Ibom State, 48 in number, supported by an initial 87 staff members, had formed the foundation on which subsequent crop of lawmakers have grown and have come to benefit from the antecedents, practices, experiences and of course, the shortcomings of their predecessors.
The Legislature in Akwa Ibom State had a humble beginning having been born out of the debris of a long military rule which kept dislocating whatever political structures and legacies the political class was able to form in the history of the Nigerian nation. There was inadequate preparation for the re-introduction of civil rule (partial as it was) and Akwa Ibom legislature was not spared the effect of such inadequacy.
This partly explains why the House of Assembly started inside an old, rather small building that served as meeting hall for the then Uyo Province during the provincial era. This was the humble beginning of what has now become a properly entrenched arm of government with a befitting physical complex and facilities which though may still be inadequate, has tremendously improved overtime to reflect the profile of the legislature as the second arm of government.
Perhaps one could recall that due to the strange phenomenon of having a military president at the centre, time tested politicians decided to tarry a bit, thus giving a chance to a crop of young politicians who were popularly referred to as “new breed” in the political lexicon. Howbeit, the members tried to perform the much needed duties of law making and the exercise of oversight functions over the operations of the executive arm of government.
Like in any circumstance, paucity of funds tended to have affected the work and by extension the relationship of the first Legislature with the executive arm because of suspicion of starvation of funds. Such suspicion must have found expression in the action of the honourable members who changed their Speaker three times within a period of about two years (January 1992 – November 1993). Informed opinion posits that this allegation of starvation was circumstantial, dependant on the hard times of those days which affected all tiers and sectors of government.
Records show that the first speaker of the First Assembly in Akwa Ibom State was Hon. Jimmy Jimmy Ntuen representing the then Afaha / Ekpenyong ( OdorolkoVOkon Constituency, followed by Honourable (Barrister) Nse Ben Ekanem representing the then UtulUruMkono constituency and Honourable (Barrister) Henry Raphael Affang representing the then Nto Edino/Nto NdanglObot Akara constituency. The Assembly had one female member Honourable (Mrs.) Grace Edim Inyang representing the then Itu/Oma/ltam constituency who was elected deputy speaker. The members in terms of political platforms comprised of 32 (NRO and 16 (SDP). 28 bills were presented to the house, out of which 10 were passed and eight signed into law.
The life span of the First Assembly came to an end in November 1993 when the democratic system was again interrupted by the military. The clerk of that Assembly was Obong Enobong Enobong Essien (late).
The Second Assembly got inaugurated on June 2, 1999 with the return of Nigeria to democratically elected government in May of the year. It comprised of 26 members and witnessed the leadership of two speakers namely Hon. Bassey Essien representing Ibeno/Esit Eket and Hon.Chief Peter Linus Umoh representing Okobo. The Deputy Speaker was Hon Aniefiok Thompson representing Nsit Ubium. The Clerk was Dr. Okon Ekanem.
This Assembly received 53 bills, 47 of which were executive bills while six were private members bills. 45 of these bills were passed by the House and 39 of them assented to by the governor. It was during this period that the Legislators’ Wives Association was formed to give the needed support and encouragement to their husbands.
We can safely pop the wine to say bravo to the Legislature which has contributed in a very great way to the achievements of the goals of government and service delivery to the people.
For penultimate years, Rt. Hon. Chief Barr. Peter Linus Umoh has been a leader whose ability to mobilise people for community building is legendary.
Member of Reps who spent half of his allocation sponsoring Oro Youths in Maritime Academy.
A bridge builder who unites all competing interest/factions, bringing to bear a unified and purpose-driven community.
As socialist, Chief Linus is gifted with intuition and wisdom exemplified by the achievements he has recorded till date.
On this auspicious day of your 65th Birth Anniversary, long life and impact filled years remain wishes by the people.
Happy birthday Akwa Ibom State intellectual gladiator, Rt. Hon. Chief Barr. Peter Linus Umoh.

Onofiok Luke’s 3rd Year In The National Assembly: Collating The Highlights
By Ofonime Honesty
Few weeks ago, June 11, 2022 precisely, National Assembly legislators in Nigeria, elected in 2019, completed the third lunar cycle of the four year mandate bestowed upon them. Drums were rolled out across the land in celebration. Both active and inactive national legislators were in the thick of merriments. It was a celebration of national service (or disservice) to their respective constituents.
I hail from Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. I am therefore, by virtue of my roots, being represented in the green chambers of the National Assembly by Onofiok Akpan Luke, who is a Right Honourable (Rt. Hon.) by virtue of previous legislative experience and a Lawyer by training. He represents the three Local Government Areas of Etinan, Nsit Ubium and Nsit Ibom lumped together and codenamed Etinan/ Nsit Ubium/ Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency. Luke heads the Committee on Judiciary, and is a member of several other committees in the House of Representatives.
I had to review his national legislative sojourn in order to ascertain how successful or unsuccessful the journey has been. Yours truly had to gather pieces of information, verify same, before drawing inferences.
The body of information gathered and verified paint the picture of one who has been very active in Abuja and Akwa Ibom State since being elected in 2019. It also portrays him as one whose voice features prominently and regularly in the hallowed chambers, and in fact, one who stands more than he sits in the chambers. Available information can form a very voluminous compendium that his contemporaries and aspiring national legislators can use as a case study.
In three years, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Akpan Luke has sponsored bills and motions. He has done oversight, committee works, and empowerment of constituents. Without infusing any tinge of exaggeration, I make bold to say that Luke has performed all the primary legislative roles since his national assembly career began in 2019.
He has many Bills to his credit, namely: *A Bill For An Act To Establish The National Institute For Electoral Studies (HB.251).

A cursory review of the forgoing Bills and Motions reveals that some of them have judicial undertone, reason deduced from the MP’s background as a Lawyer. His headship of the Judiciary Committee further reinforces this stance.
Luke has also facilitated, or attracted several projects for his people, including free medical outreach and health education, provision of laptops to youths for educational training and enterprise development, vocational skills training for women and youths/ distribution of hair dressing equipment, sewing machines and generators, and construction of ICT Knowledge Centre at Nsit Peoples Grammar School, Ikot Ukobo in Nsit Ubium.

All information captured in the foregoing paragraphs has been duly verified as factual by me. While there is room for improvement, I wish to state unequivocally that the quality of Onofiok Luke ‘s representation ranks high above most of his contemporaries. This is no ego-massage, but a simple statement of fact.

The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby draws public attention to plans by criminal elements to return the country to the pre-2015 era reminiscent of IED attacks on soft and hard targets in parts of the country.
Though there are already reported cases of such incidents in some areas, the Service has uncovered a ploy by suspected criminal gangs to forge an alliance among themselves with a view to launching further attacks on critical infrastructure and other frequented public places like worship and relaxation centres, especially during and after the holidays and festive celebrations. The objective is to achieve some self- serving interests as well as cause fear among the citizenry. The Service, however, recalls its earlier warning that some groups and individuals were plotting to stoke violence in the country.
Following these, patrons, owners and managers of aforementioned public places are advised to be wary of this development and implement basic security measures to deter the threats. While the Service is committed to the disruption of this trend and pattern of violent attacks, it will continue to partner with other security agencies to ensure that necessary drills are emplaced in order that public peace and order are not jeopardized.
To this end, residents are enjoined to go about their lawful businesses and share, with security and law enforcement agencies, useful information on the activities of criminals.
Meanwhile, the DGSS, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi, fwc wishes all and sundry a hitch free Workers’ Day and Sallah celebrations.
